Blan Fou is drawn from my personal memories, notes, and reports collected while I was in Haiti, during the political upheaval of 1991 and 1992.
It includes depictions of violence and systemic harm, but also of bravery and hope. People, organizations and places are representative. No character is based on an actual person. Some events are described in a chronology that is not historically accurate.
Haitian Kreyòl (or “Creole”) is used without direct, in-line translation. A glossary is included with English translation. I hope you’ll forgive any break in rhythm when reading a Haitian phrase for the first time.
